About

When I was 9 years old, my dad, Rick Chavoya, was diagnosed with lung cancer. He was never a smoker and he led a pretty healthy lifestyle, so the news came as a serious shock to my family. The disease lived inside of him for two years before it took his life in 2001.

It's been 13 years since his death. I am now 22 years old and I've realized just how much I don't know about my dad. What was his favorite song? Who were his idols? What was he scared of? What were his strengths and weaknesses? I've decided to discover these things for myself through a series of interviews with those that knew him best: his family members, friends, college roommates, coworkers, neighbors. The end product will be a book of his life, written by me, his only daughter.

This blog serves as a place for me to document my journey of discovery. It is a place that focuses on home, family and what the two really mean.
